Lisa Bendzsa, Registered Psychologist

Lisa Bendzsa is a Registered Psychologist (Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board #242) with over 25 years of experience. She has worked in mental health units and in private practice in South Africa, London (UK) and Newfoundland. Lisa has a full private practice, while also holding a position of Clinical Lecturer in Psychiatry at Memorial University where she teaches and supervises 4th year psychiatry residents in psychodynamic psychotherapy. She also teaches in the Psy.D programme at MUN on a sessional basis.

In her private practice, Lisa specializes in Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy. This well-researched, emotion-focused therapy is effective for people suffering with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, medically unexplained physical symptoms, for survivors of abuse and trauma, and for people who find themselves in relationship or interpersonal difficulties, or self-defeating patterns. Through compassionate attention to the person underneath the symptoms and suffering, Lisa and her patient work together to shift automatic unconscious patterns that have hindered them and resulted in their difficulties and symptomatology, so that their true potential, health, and freedom to make appropriate decisions in their lives can be accessed.
